Chess has been hiding under jigsaw puzzle boxes in your grandparent's house dating all the way back to the early 7th century.
Traditionally (and incorrectly) thought of as a game only for "brainiacs" or "nerds", chess has come a long way from being the other pieces included with your checkerboard.
The international governing body of chess is the Fédération Internationale des Échecs, or FIDE (pronounced fee-day). They connect the various national chess federations around the world.
Five minutes to learn, a lifetime to master.
The highest chess ranking is "Grandmaster" and is generally a lifetime title unless caught cheating or using performance enhancing drugs.....those pieces get heavy.
The November 2016 list of grandmasters contains 1,541 individuals, 33 of which are female.
