Shouldn't it be "No Labor" Day?
June 28th, 1894. On that day Congress sealed the fate of September's first Monday as the calendar square kids have to accept school is back in session, lifeguards put away the Banana Boat, and white slacks find the vacuum storage bag (we hope).
The idea was founded on a solid principle, without the workers of America we have no economic growth or social progress. A fundamental core to the American way of life and the avenue towards chickens in ovens and cars in garages.
So go ahead America, take the day off and give yourself a pat on the back. You've earned it. Relax. Enjoy a three day weekend with season-ending BBQs and season starting kick-offs.
According to a recent study, there's only one small group not heeding this advice. The American Workforce.
Since 2000, there has been a downward trend of used days off. Americans are taking almost a full week less of earned vacation. There was over 658 million (yeah, MILLION!) unused vacation days in 2015 (222 million of which were forfeited for 2016).
What happens when we vacate?
How do we fix this?
So stay outta trouble this weekend. Doctor's orders.
