"Autonomy" is the "freedom of external influence or control" and a synonym for "freedom". This is a critical component to the doctor/patient relationship for both the practitioner and recipient.
Dr. Mike attended the Texas Chiropractic College (TCC) in Houston, Texas. Many of his classmates practice chiropractic care on a straightforward, evidence-based platform designed to use the latest in scientific research as a measuring stick towards assessing treatment effectiveness and evaluating alternatives that have shown to produce positive results.
While we are biased to the subject matter of "chiropractic care", the larger issue at hand is the freedom to choose your form of health care as well as the provider. Regardless of individual opinion, should the patient wish to pursue chemical, surgical, allopathic, naturopathic, osteopathic, traditional, off-the-wall, physical, mental, emotional, or spiritual care that right should never be infringed upon or compromised.
If the Texas Medical Board is able to handcuff the public and their access to chiropractic care, this precedent opens the door to future regulatory measures against all other forms of health care including massage therapy, acupuncture, dieticians, nutritionists, physical therapy, nurse practitioners, and any other form of care not defined as "medical care".
A wedge is most effective by simply inserting the thin edge, and applying pressure. Then it's a matter of time before the division is complete and everyone looks around asking "How did we get here?"
Under no circumstance does Oakwood support the efficacy of every single health care option available to the public. Some are ineffective, dangerous, unsubstantiated, and downright ridiculous. But we will never support the stripping of your right to choose who, what, when, and how your health care is administered.
Pay attention to Texas. Get involved. Protect freedom. Thousands of Texas practitioners brilliantly treat millions of people from all over the world.
Freedom isn't free.
Have a great weekend.
